For the first time, one of the most prestigious international golf circuits will be coming to northern Portugal. The Porto Tourism Association  is collaborating with Vidago Palace Hotel Golf to promote the competition’s debut in northern Portugal.

Between 12th and 14th September, a host of big names will be teeing off at the Vidago Palace Hotel golf course, which will be the stage for one of the most high profile circuits in world golf. The event will also promote the image of northern Portugal as the golf destination par excellence, in addition to the region gaining a new position on the professional international circuit.

The Vidago Palace Hotel golf course presents a range of landscapes, meaning that the players at this event will not only enjoy the excellent course but also the beautiful scenery, which includes views of the sea and mountains in an area listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

This 18 hole course is one of several to be found in the northern region of Portugal. Although this is the eighth time that a stage on the European Senior Tour has been held in Portugal, it is the first time that the competition will take place in the north of the country.

The Senior Open de Portugal will complement and greatly strengthen the work developed to promote, commercialize and sell golf in Porto and northern Portugal to international markets. The northern region is home to numerous courses that have been gaining notoriety among golf enthusiasts and this event will be, without doubt, a launch pad for the promotion of golf in northern Portugal.

World ranking players such as Ian Woosnam, Sam Torrance and Mark James are just some of the golfers already confirmed for the competition, which is offering €225,000 in prize money. Given its worldwide status, a large number of golf lovers are expected to attend this sporting event in one of the best European golf resorts. In addition to the specialist press that will be present at the event, the tour’s official television station, European Tour Broadcasters, will be transmitting the stage to more than 30 countries worldwide, making the event available in 130 million homes.

Are you a golf lover? Then you cannot miss this event! Make a note in your diary: 12th-14th September 2014 at the Vidago Palace Hotel.
