With the arrival of the warm weather and summer, the Festivals are upon us too. Northern of Portugal is no exception when it comes to hosting such events, already having a tradition in their organization. Many of the summer festivals that take place here have won a legion of fans who, year after year, make their presence felt.

The summer festivals in Northern Portugal can combine all the experiences sought after by festival-goers: good music (and all kinds, according to the Festival), a perfect environment with the locality in which they are held and where you can enjoy the beach (as is the case with Paredes de Coura) and the surrounding Nature.

The diversity of styles and the bet on new values and on the charisma of artists with renowned careers transformed the NOS Primavera Sound festival in a mandatory one in the festival circuit that takes place in Southern Europe. Three days of real spring time in Porto, well located in the city and easily accessed. An ideal location that comes to welcome about 75 000 people from 40 different nationalities.

Get to know the headlights of this year's festivals, when they'll take place and organize your trip and schedule right away:

NOS Primavera Sound (4th to 6th June 2015)

The city of Porto hosts another NOS Primavera Sound in early June. The City Park, near the sea, is the perfect place for the Portuguese edition of the Festival that has been held in Barcelona for twelve years. The poster includes names such as Patti Smith, Antony and the Johnsons, Belle & Sebastian, among others. Tickets are also on sale now.

Vodafone Paredes de Coura (19th to 22th August 2015)

We start with the Festival that takes place further north, practically on the border with Galicia. The Portuguese town of Paredes de Coura - 50 km from Vigo - welcomes the dean of the Portuguese scene. A true classic. For over 20 years you can hear good music in the natural amphitheater of Taboão's river beach. The lineup focuses on both national and international alternative music, with names such as TV on the Radio, Tame Impala, The War on Drugs, among many others. You can ensure your ticket now.

Milhões de Festa (23th to 26th July 2015)

Still in the North of the country, near Barcelos, between the city of Braga and Costa Verde, the festival Milhões de Festa continues to grow and has been gaining a prominent place among the fierce summer festivals competition in Portugal. Its latest edition has more than 50 bands and its proposal is a daring move: new sounds and new bands, both Portuguese and worldwide. Such bands as All We Are, The Cosmic Dead and THEEsatisfaction are revealed. A festival of freshness. Tickets are already available.

If you visit Porto in a season other than spring or summer, take a look at the events schedule of Casa da Música. An original and avant-garde building opened in 2005, work of the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, it offers the city the best international music throughout the year.

Serralves still hosts the largest festival of contemporary artistic expression in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe. Serralves em Festa has hundreds of events for audiences of all ages and generations: music, dance, theater, circus performance for 40 hours non stop, with free admission, on 30th and 31st May 2015.
